THE PET TRAVEL SCHEME (P.E.T.S.)
With effect from 3 July 2004, dogs, cats and ferrets meeting the necessary requirements are able to move between qualifying EU Member States if they are accompanied by a Pet Passport. All the previous different documents needed for travel into each European Member State are replaced by this one veterinary document, which is recognised across the EU. Sample images of the Pet Passport are reproduced below Pet Passports are completed by, and available from, vets, and contain details of the pet owner and the animal, including its microchip number, rabies vaccination and blood test details and sections to record the tick and tapeworm treatment required for entry into the UK. It also makes it easier for vets to learn about the pet’s medical history.
